How many slices are in a large pizza?
Most US pizza chains cut a 14 inch large pizza into 8 slices. Some shops offer a 12 slice party cut, which gives you more but smaller slices. The calculator lets you choose 8 or 12 slices, so pick the one that matches your pizza shop.
How many pizzas for 30 people?
For 30 people with a normal appetite (2 slices each), you need about 60 slices. That is 8 large pizzas if each pizza has 8 slices, or 5 large pizzas if your shop cuts them into 12 slices. If you have big eaters or no other food, add one or two more.
Did I get the best deal?
The easiest way to check is the price per square inch. A pizza's area is 3.14 x (diameter / 2) x (diameter / 2). A 16 inch pizza is about 201 square inches, while two 10 inch pizzas add up to only about 157 square inches. So one big pizza often gives you more food for less money than two small ones. Divide the price by the square inches and pick the lowest number, or use our pizza size comparison tool.
What if guests have different appetite levels?
Use the Adults, Teens and Kids boxes in the calculator. Teens usually eat the most and young kids eat the least, so the calculator gives each group its own slice count. Then pick "Normal appetite" for most parties, "Very hungry" for big eaters like sports teams, or "Slight appetite" if you are also serving lots of other food.
Should I order more than the calculator suggests?
If pizza is the only food, ordering one extra pizza is a safe choice. Running out feels worse than having leftovers, and leftover pizza is easy to store. If you are also serving sides, salads, or desserts, the calculator number is usually enough.
How long does pizza stay fresh?
Do not leave pizza out at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour on a very hot day above 90°F. Put leftovers in the fridge within that time. In the fridge, pizza stays good for 3 to 4 days. In the freezer, it keeps its best taste for about 1 to 2 months.
