The best way to compare pizzas is by area, not by slice count. In this guide, one adult with a normal appetite eats about 38 square inches of pizza. That is the same as 2 slices of a 14 inch pizza cut into 8.

"Big eaters" means about 3 regular slices each, like teens or a sports team. Sizes and slice counts change from shop to shop, so check the menu if you are not sure.
8 slices or 12 slices: why it does not change much
A 14 inch large pizza is the same amount of food whether it is cut into 8 or 12 slices. An 8 slice cut gives slices of about 19 square inches each. A 12 slice party cut gives slices of about 13 square inches each. So 3 small party cut slices are about the same as 2 regular slices.

How many kids or teens a large pizza feeds
- Young kids: most eat 1 to 2 regular slices, so a large 8 slice pizza feeds about 4 to 6 young kids.
- Teens: most eat 3 or more slices, so a large pizza feeds about 2 to 3 teens.
- Adults: most eat 2 to 3 slices, so a large pizza feeds about 3 to 4 adults.
What about a party size pizza?
There is no standard party size pizza. Many shops sell a big rectangular pizza cut into small squares, but the size and the number of pieces are different everywhere. The easy way to plan is to use the area:
- Ask the shop for the length and width in inches.
- Multiply length x width to get the area.
- Divide the area by 38 to get about how many adults it feeds.
For example, an 18 x 26 inch party pizza is 468 square inches. 468 ÷ 38 is about 12, so it feeds about 12 adults with a normal appetite.
Is one large pizza better than two mediums?
