Why compare pizzas by area?
Pizza size is measured across the middle (the diameter), but the amount of pizza depends on the area. A small change in inches makes a big change in food. A 16 inch pizza is only 2 inches wider than a 14 inch pizza, but it has about 30 percent more pizza.
Pizza area chart
| Pizza size | Area | Compared to a 14 inch large |
|---|---|---|
| 10 inch | 79 sq in | About half |
| 12 inch | 113 sq in | About 3/4 |
| 14 inch | 154 sq in | Same |
| 16 inch | 201 sq in | About 1.3 times |
| 18 inch | 254 sq in | About 1.65 times |
How to find the best deal
- Find the area: 3.14 x (diameter ÷ 2) x (diameter ÷ 2).
- Divide the price by the area to get the price per square inch.
- The lowest price per square inch is the best value.
Larger pizzas are usually cheaper per square inch, but deals and coupons can change that. That is why it helps to put in your shop's real prices above.
